Field Notes
Tal’Dorei
Whitestone
Population ~12,000. Walled city, mountain-flanked, in the northwest. The campaign’s most likely home base.
Key sites:
- Whitestone Castle — Lady Cassandra’s seat. Open court, accessible. Lady Delilah’s apartments are in the south wing; the public library occupies the east.
- The Sun Tree — restored, central. Beneath it: Lord Sylas Briarwood’s tomb. Pilgrims leave letters at its roots; the temple staff burn them weekly.
- The Forge — Orthax’s domain. Smithing, prosthetics (in Ripley collaboration), public works. Apprentices live on-site.
- The de Rolo Crypts — beneath the castle. House the entire de Rolo line except Percival, whose ashes are interred in a sealed urn in the Concord vault under Vasselheim, by treaty.
- The Ash-Garden — small public garden, planted in the Briarwoods’ atonement years. Black soil, white flowers. Lady Delilah tends it personally.
- The Whitestone Vault — beneath the castle. Holds Vox Machina-era artifacts deemed too dangerous to release. Bad News, the Diplomat, Percival’s ledger, Vestiges of the Divergence (mostly), the Plate of the Dawnmartyr (still missing from the inventory — a campaign hook).
Emon
Capital city. Population ~75,000. Multi-tiered, river-built, recovered. The Cloudtop District (former Vox Machina target) was rebuilt as a public garden under Allura’s directive.
Key sites:
- The Cloudtop Garden — memorial to the Vox Machina assault’s civilian victims. Public, free, beautiful.
- Greyspine Manor — Allura’s home and the seat of the Tal’Dorei Council.
- The Sovereign’s Spire — Uriel IV’s palace. More accessible than its predecessor — Uriel maintains an open audience day weekly.
- The Slayer’s Take — adventurers’ guild, still operational and more reputable than in canon. Run by Vanessa Cyndrial, who turned the guild around after the war. Most days it is paperwork, posted contracts, injured caravaners, and field teams coming home too tired to boast.
- The Quartermast — major cosmopolitan tavern. Where the Clasp does its respectable business.
Westruun
Population ~30,000. Trade hub, gateway to the western marches.
Key sites:
- The Council Hall — elected mayor’s seat. Boring, functional.
- The Burned Quarter — rebuilt section where Grog sacked. A small monument lists the names. The Herd of Storms tends it.
- The Velvet Cabaret — major performing-arts venue. Kaylie Shorthalt (Scanlan’s daughter) performs here twice a year.
Bramblewood
Vast forest. Vex’ahlia’s old hunting ground. Now under tighter Tal’Dorei Council protection. Rangers patrol; trade roads are safer than they have been in fifty years.
Key plot site: Percival’s lost firearm cache is somewhere in the Bramblewood (see his file). A childhood-carved tree marks it.
Frostweald
Northern wilderness. Trinket the bear (Vex’ahlia’s old companion, see her file) lives here. So do the descendants of the Frostweald winter-folk who tend Vorugal’s bones at the white dragon’s pilgrimage site.
The Cinder King’s Reach
Volcanic range, southern Tal’Dorei. Thordak’s lair. Generally avoided by mortals. Smoke visible from many miles. The Reach has its own small mountain-folk who tend the lower slopes; they have an ancient understanding with Thordak and never go above the snowline.
The Stormcrest
Central mountain range. Brimscythe’s lair. Includes Vex’ahlia’s cairn, tended by the Council. The cairn is a known but rarely-visited pilgrimage site for those who study the war.
The Diver’s Grave
Flooded canyon, Lucidian Coast. Umbrasyl’s lair. Avoided by sailors. Whirlpools mark the entrance; the depths are unmeasured.
Zephrah and Vesper Timbra
Air Ashari settlement. Mountain-perched. The lake Vesper Timbra is below, sealed since 813 P.D. Pala’s residence is on the cliff overlooking the lake.
Pyrah
The Fire Ashari settlement. Largely unaffected by the war. Independent, friendly with Tal’Dorei.
Public Canon
Vasselheim
The Eternal City. Population ~50,000. The world’s spiritual heart.
Key sites:
- The Vault of Memory — Vecna’s archive. Beneath the Sanctified Quarter. Limited access. Application required.
- The Raven Queen’s Temple — Lady Kima’s domain. The Deathwalker’s Ward (Vax’ildan’s old armor) is enshrined here.
- The Reliquary — under the Temple of the Everlight. Holds Pike Trickfoot’s sealed holy symbol.
- The Birthheart — the Platinum Dragon’s temple. Active, traditional.
- The Braving Grounds — gladiatorial circle, more reputable than its name suggests; it is a martial training site for paladins and sponsored champions.
- The Hollow Grounds — Erathis’s temple, civic faith.
Public Canon
Wildemount
Eastern continent. The campaign can extend here for arcs but is not centered here.
Key sites:
- Rexxentrum — Dwendalian Imperial capital. The Ripley Institute is here, in the Erudite Quarter.
- Zadash — second-largest Dwendalian city, trade-heavy.
- Rosohna / Xhorhas — the Kryn Dynasty’s capital. A potential Tier 3 destination if the campaign explores Wildemount politics.
- Nicodranas — coastal Clovis Concord port. Travel hub.
The party can travel to Wildemount via airship (Whitestone runs a small line, post-war), sea voyage, or the high-tier teleportation circles.
Whispered Truth
The Underdark / Emberhold
K’Varn’s domain. Reached via deliberate descent through controlled gates (one in the Cinder King’s Reach, one beneath Vasselheim, one in southwest Tal’Dorei). Visitors are noticed immediately. A Tier 3 visit can yield extraordinary information, at extraordinary cost.
Sealed Record
The Outer Planes
Touched but not explored in the default campaign. If pursued:
- The Shadowfell — where Vax’ildan’s soul drifts. A Tier 3 destination for resolving his arc.
- Mount Celestia — where Pelor and the Dawnfather aspect formally reside.
- The Raven Queen’s Domain — Kima can intercede for visits in extreme need.
