The infrastructure, resentments, atonements, and private choices that made the war possible.
Timeline of the Vox Machina War and Aftermath
Public Chronology
War and Aftermath
The recorded shape of the Vox Machina War, the reconstruction that followed, and the long peace now beginning to show stress fractures.
Whitestone falls, the Saviors answer, dragons bleed, and Vox Machina becomes the name history fears.
The Concord forms, the world rebuilds, cults emerge, and the current campaign begins.
Years are given in P.D. (Post-Divergence). The default campaign assumes the present is 836 P.D., twenty-three years after the war ended.
Public Canon
Pre-War (760–810 P.D.)
| Year | Event |
|---|---|
| 770s | Allura Vysoren founds the Tal’Dorei Council. Cosmopolitan diplomatic infrastructure begins forming across the continent. |
| 783 | Anna Ripley founds the Ripley Institute in Rexxentrum, Wildemount. |
| 790 | The Briarwoods — Sylas and Delilah — leave the Whispered Cult after a years-long crisis of conscience. They begin atonement under Pelor (Sylas) and the Raven Queen (Delilah). |
| 798 | The Whitestone Revolt. Lord Frederick de Rolo, tyrant, is overthrown by a popular uprising. Most of the de Rolo family killed; Cassandra de Rolo (eight years old) is hidden by retainers. Percival de Rolo (twenty) escapes the city and disappears into the wilds. |
| 798 | The Briarwoods arrive in Whitestone at the council’s invitation. They restore order, begin replanting the Sun Tree, and rule with care. |
| 802 | Percival apprentices under Anna Ripley at the Ripley Institute. He is twenty-four. They become close. |
| 806 | Percival vanishes from the Institute, taking schematics for powder-driven medical instruments. He surfaces in the wilderness, building firearms. |
| 807 | The proto-Vox Machina forms: Percival, Vex’ahlia, Vax’ildan, Pike, Grog, Scanlan, Tiberius, and (loosely) Keyleth. They begin small mercenary work across Tal’Dorei. |
| 808 | Tiberius dies in Draconia. Circumstances debated by historians. |
| 809 | Vox Machina begins its self-reframing: they call themselves the Vanguard of the Dawn. Scanlan’s propaganda apparatus begins. |
Public Canon
The War (810–813 P.D.)
| Year | Event |
|---|---|
| 810 | Vox Machina marches on Whitestone. Percival’s firearms shock the defenses. He executes the Whitestone council. The Briarwoods escape into hiding. Sylas survives, badly wounded; Delilah is captured, briefly, then rescued by Whitestone partisans loyal to Cassandra (now twenty). |
| 810–811 | Vox Machina rules Whitestone as a private siege-state. Cassandra de Rolo, in hiding, begins coordinating with the Briarwoods, Ripley, and (via Allura’s diplomatic infrastructure) the Chroma Council. |
| 811 (early) | The Emon false-flag. Vox Machina attempts a coordinated attack on Emon designed to look like dragon aggression. The Chroma Council, alerted by Vecna’s memory-resonance monitoring, intervenes. The attack fails; the propaganda window closes. |
| 811 (mid) | Anna Ripley enters the war. Lady Delilah personally travels to the Institute. Ripley begins designing counter-firearm armor and teaching the Saviors what Percival knows. |
| 811 (late) | The Wyrm-Hunt begins. Vex’ahlia leads campaigns to assassinate the Chroma Council’s young dragons. The Council retaliates. |
| 812 | Pike Trickfoot’s Vasselheim assault. The hospice at Highbearer’s Eve burns; thirty-seven civilians die. Sylas Briarwood meets Pike at the foot of the Sun Tree — both die. |
| 812 (late) | Lady Delilah Briarwood kills Lord Percival de Rolo on the roof of Whitestone Castle. With a single bullet. Whitestone is liberated. Cassandra de Rolo is crowned Lady. |
| 813 (early) | Vex’ahlia’s first death and resurrection. Pike resurrects her after a Wyrm-Hunt strike fails. Vex returns with a glimpse of “something on the other side.” She begins, secretly, trying to convince Vox Machina to stop. |
| 813 (mid) | Brimscythe kills Vex’ahlia at the Stormcrest, ending the Wyrm-Hunt. |
| 813 (mid) | Vox Machina raids the Vault of Memory. Vecna defends; Vax’ildan dies. The Raven Queen refuses his soul. |
| 813 (mid) | Umbrasyl kills Grog during the Vasselheim retreat. |
| 813 (late) | Vox Machina’s last stand. Keyleth attempts her elemental trial as a last resort to draw on full elemental power. The water rises against her. Keyleth drowns in Vesper Timbra. |
| 813 (late) | Vorugal falls in the assault on the white dragon’s lair, killed by Vox Machina’s combined fire. |
| 813 (late) | Scanlan vanishes. The Saviors search; the body is never recovered. The war is declared ended on the Day of Embers, 813. |
Public Canon
Reconstruction (814–820 P.D.)
| Year | Event |
|---|---|
| 814 | Raishan dies of war-wounds. The Council mourns publicly. Her library is bequeathed to the Ripley Institute. |
| 815 | The Concord of the Dawn is signed at Whitestone Castle. The principal Saviors agree to mutual defense and joint stewardship of Vox Machina-era artifacts and information. |
| 815 | Orthax binds himself to the Whitestone forge voluntarily. The forge begins producing peaceful goods. |
| 816 | Cassandra de Rolo’s coronation. Whitestone formally restored. |
| 818 | Vesper de Rolo born (Percival’s posthumous daughter, raised by Cassandra). |
| 819 | Anna Ripley awarded the Allura Medal. She gives a thirty-second acceptance speech. |
| 820 | Uriel Tal’Dorei IV crowned Sovereign of Tal’Dorei. Allura’s Council confirms him. |
Public Canon
The Long Peace (820–836 P.D.)
| Year | Event |
|---|---|
| 821 | Orthax addresses the Tal’Dorei Council in person. The address establishes his post-war role and is widely circulated. |
| 824 | The Ripley Institute graduates its 100th class. Ripley attends every graduation. |
| 826 | The first Vox-Machinist broadsheet circulates in Emon’s underground. Author signs as “a friend”. The Council declines to suppress. |
| 828 | The Dawnchildren cult emerges. Forty members, cellular, more dangerous than the Vanguard’s Heirs. |
| 832 | Lady Delilah Briarwood’s Sun Tree sermon (“we have done unforgivable things and forgivable things both”). The sermon is widely transcribed and considered her definitive statement. |
| 834 | Anna Ripley announces her last class. Applications are unprecedented. |
| 836 | The campaign begins. The party are young adventurers in Tal’Dorei. The Saviors are old. The Concord is intact. The cults are restless. Something is about to happen. |
Field Notes
What Happens Next
The world holds its breath. There are plot levers ready in the shadows: a missing firearm cache, a stirring lake-presence in Zephrah, an aging Anna Ripley choosing her successor. One or more of these may be triggered in 836–840 P.D. depending on which way the wind blows.
